Rep. Harold Love, Jr. spoke with the senior class at Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet High School about government and the process of democratic selection. Some of the topics he discussed were

 

  • constituent needs
  • agreements in politics
  • compromises

 

One of the best questions that was posed was “What motivated you to be who you are?”

 

Rep. Love said his father inspired him to become a State Representative. Harold Love, Sr. was a previous State Representative. He also mentioned his uncle, who was a former principal for Pearl High (before the merger of Pearl & Cohn High Schools). And like any good son, Rep. Love referenced his mother who has been the Director of Upward Bound at Tennessee State University for 56 years – and still serving there.

 

This led to Rep. Love encouraging the students to become the best. He gave examples of people who had past troubles, but still succeeded. Moreover, he encouraged the students not to limit themselves based off where they grew up, but to strive to be the best they can
